Russian President Vladimir Putin said that his work in the Soviet Committee for State Security, the KGB, was at times tied up with “illegal intelligence”, in an interview with TV presenter Sergei Brilev in Moscow, Saturday.
Putin stated that people who worked in the KGB are “special, with special features, special convictions, they are the people of a special character.”
The Russian leader specified that “Not everyone can give up their life, give up their loved ones, leave their families for many, many years, not everyone can devote their lives to serving their home country. Only the chosen ones can do this”.
Putin joined KGB in 1975, serving undercover in Dresden, East Germany, between 1985 and 1990.
