President Trump is apparently pushing for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the G20 summit in Germany next month amid an ongoing investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the U.S. election. As The Associated Press reports some of Trump’s advisors don’t think it’s a good idea. Some administration officials — including some from the State Department and National Security Council — say the U.S. should keep a distance from Russia and be cautious about meeting with the country’s leaders. But, according to The Associated Press, Trump and some of his advisors want a full bilateral meeting. Some advisors told The Associated Press they recommended Trump should instead do a quick, informal meeting with Putin or Washington and Moscow should hold “strategic stability talks,” which wouldn’t involve the presidents. Putin’s spokesperson says the two will have a chance to meet no matter what at the summit and the protocol side of it is secondary.
